- Coats, shoes, or hats are not permitted once entering the Dojo (school).
All belongings must be taken to the locker room. Please bring a lock. We are
not responsible for personal belongings.
- Food is not allowed in the Dojo. This includes candy, gum, and drinks.
- Please keep the Dojo clean at all times. Assist with class set up and
clean up.
- No loud talking, jeering, or noise while classes are in session. Bullying
or any disruptive, disrespectful behavior is not tolerated.
- Students must bow and greet OSU! when entering and leaving the Dojo at all
times. Everyone should walk on the perimeter of the Dojo floor.
- All students should respond with a loud OSU! in acknowledgement when given
a command or spoken to by a senior student.
- Please keep yourself and your uniform (gi) neat and clean. Seido patches
must be properly sewn on the gi. Never write on your gi or belt (obi). Your
obi should never be washed, as it carries the history of your training. Please
keep finger and toe nails trimmed.
- Jewelry is not permitted to be worn during class.
- Please respect and maintain all Dojo equipment, belongings and materials.
- Always show good spirit and attitude in and out of the Dojo.
- Students must practice the material they are taught in class at home. In
addition, students must review their syllabus. Students are expected to
purchase and read appropriate rank level chapters from the organizational
textbook, Karate Technique & Spirit, by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. All colored
belts are also required to read Kaicho’ autobiography, The Human Face of
Karate. Students are responsible for all the material of previous ranks as
they advance.
- Program registration payments & membership fees to the World Seido Karate
Organization must always be kept up to date.
- Students are to notify class Instructors of any serious injury(ies) or
illness, and if they are taking medication before taking class.
- No fighting (Kumite) is permitted unless supervised by a Black Belt.
- Proper safety equipment must always be worn during Kumite (sparring). Only
Intermediate ranked students may engage in Kumite with Black Belt supervision.
Safety equipment must be kept in good condition.
- No rolling, break-fall techniques, or weight training is permitted without
Black Belt supervision.
- Parents/guardians are welcome to observe the first, second, and last class
of each session by sitting in the visitor’s area. We reserve the right to
request anyone to leave the Dojo area at any time. Parents should be there to
pick up their child when class is over; the instructors are not responsible
for any of the children or supervision of the locker rooms before or after
class.
- Parents/guardians are prohibited from interaction with any of the children
once they enter the Dojo. Please do not help your child to dress or tie their
belts.
- Parents and students may speak with the Instructors before or after class only. If necessary, please leave a note at the front office desk and an Instructor will get in contact with you. - Parents must follow the same rules of conduct and etiquette expected of
all Seido Central Queens Karate - Do students. The Dojo rules apply to all
Seido Central Queens Karate Do programs (Seido – CQ Jamaica YMCA; CQ Brooks
Memorial; & the SEIDO Independent Living & Self-Defense
Seminar).
- Promotion recommendations are at the discretion of the program
Instructors. Promotions take place at the headquarters (Honbu) of the World
Seido Karate Organization. Advancement to the next rank/belt level is not
guaranteed with payment.
- Promotion fees are not refundable for any reason.
- Students are not permitted to change Dojos or train in other/several Seido
Karate programs without the knowledge, permission, and recommendation by the
student’s Chief Instructor to the program Chief Instructor of the referred
Dojo, and the acceptance of the transfer by the referred Dojo’s Chief
Instructor. All requests for school transfers must be in writing with the
reason for the request and submitted to the program Chief Instructor.
- Students may not use, copy, or duplicate the World Seido Karate
Organization copyrighted emblems and/or trademarks without the written
expressed permission of the organization’s Grand Master, Kaicho T. Nakamura or
Nidaime Akira Nakamura, Vice Chairman.
- When late to class, bow and say Osu! to the shinzen, and sit quietly with
your eyes closed by the side of the training floor. Wait until the Instructor
tells you to open your eyes and begin to do pushups. Keep doing this until you
are told to stretch and asked to join class.
